This week’s Mixtape and the new records that will colour my spring/summer.
Howabout that weekend? That was not sunny or warm or spring-like for any of us in Southern'tario. The moment I take the flannels of my bed, it gets cold at night again? What's the deal with that?
Last Thursday I had not decided what this week's Mixtape would be about. I had a few semi-completed mixes floating around and a few I had ideas for and accidentally deleted. So at the time of the show last week, I could have gone with any number of ideas. But then I looked at the forecast, and I made a call: This Thursday is the Warm Weather Mixtape, because it's going to be warm this Thursday.
In the spirit of thinking about spring and warmth and then eventually summer, here are three records I am looking forward to...
Now, I've been told there's a new Shad album to be released this year, but the only timeline I can find online says "mid-2010", and that's a long way from here. Let's hope it's sooner rather than later. I found out about Shad while lying around watching TV at home some years ago when I saw the hilarious, quirky, and fun video for The Old Prince (Still Lives At Home) on Much Music (weird, huh?). I then introduced Shad to a good friend of mine, who got hooked, and subsequently re-introduced me to his music. Has that ever happened to you?
Chris "Old Man" Luedecke's album "Hinterland" came to me by way of my brother last year during reading week. It was a slow burner at first, but then the sun came out and the snow melted and I listened to that album for all of March and April. His new album, titled "My Hands Are On Fire And Other Love Songs" will be released in Canada on March 30th. Here's to a banjo-filled April 2010.
And finally, (omgi'msoexcited) The Hold Steady are releasing their follow-up to 2008's "Stay Positive". Scheduled for May 4th, it's called "Heaven Is Whenever" and it looks like this. My expectations are astronomically high.
These are the albums I think you should look out for in the coming months. What albums do you think I should be looking forward to? Post a comment. Then we can have a Hold Steady/Luedecke/(your fave band's new record) listening party.
Warm Weather Mixtape This Thursday At Nine In The Evening. It's Going To Be Truly Capitol.
