Have a little faith in The Mixtape

Author: The Mixtape
Hey, it's week six! You know what that means. Only six weeks left, plus twelve more weeks counting next semester, counting 24 more weeks for next year...and so on. Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? Hope your midterms are going well, anyways.

And special thanks (as has been offered up quite a bit) to anyone who came out for bingo last Friday. A lot of great prizes were won that night. I personally walked away with a brand new hat rack under my arm.

Speaking of midterms, by the way, you all know that it is (according to the "rules") considered cheating to look over a classmate's shoulder and copy answers directly off their paper, right? And you've all heard the spiel about exactly how illegal academic plagiarism is. So what are you to do when you need your fix of someone copying the work of someone else and presenting it for their own personal gain?

For starters, you can tune in this Thursday night a 9pm for the all covers episode of the Mixtape.

If you do, you might hear alot of things: covers of songs that you didn't know were covers, covers of songs you know by artists you don't, covers of songs you didn't know by artists you do, and the ever popular covers of songs you don't know by artists you don't know.

You might also hear great bands paying homage to great songs by having a few drinks and making those songs even better, as in the case of The Faces cover of Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed".

More like this and unlike this on Thursday at 9pm!

The Mixtape is settin’ the woods on fire.

Author: The Mixtape
The woods are ablaze with colour!

Autumn always feels like such a forgotten season, doesn't it? With all the trouble of getting back into "school-mode" coupled with long gone memories of summer and that nagging presence of Winter's impending doom, it might take you by surprise to look up and realize that, "hey, this place looks great!".

It's time to embrace Autumn. And since this season is all about the country, this week I'm going to put on my best County music Mixtape. Think about steel guitars and nasally voices! Think about tender country ballads about budding problems with alcoholism. Think about taking up a tried and true musical tradition as a young person with the full knowledge that you'll never really be that popular but that it's still fun enough to do it anyways.

Of course, you might just hit it big, like our good friend Willie Nelson. 20 seconds into watching that video for the first time, I thought to myself: "I wonder where Willie Nelson is..."

If you want to go up the country a little bit, tune into The Mixtape this Thursday night at 9pm. Also, since it's the country tape this week, I thought it would be fitting to take up the reigns and rejoin the search for the Saddest Song in the World. It'll be a good time.

And since we won't hear from him tomorrow, here's some more Willie to tide you over.

Talk to you soon

The Mixtape is some place to come home to.

Author: The Mixtape
This week's Mixtape is for all of you folks who are jetting off home bright and early on Friday morning. It's the first official break from school and a chance to lull yourself into a false sense of academic security before you start writing midterms and papers. But at home, you are a conquering hero.

So, this week's show is dedicated to the return to your first home and, inevitably, the chance to think about the place where you used to be and the place you are now.

Last week's show was all about money and work. So, we heard money songs like Randy Newman's It's Money That Matters (at 2:50), work songs like Lone Justice's Working Late, and we also learned about the hobo life, which, perhaps surprisingly, involves little to no knife action.

Before you go home on Friday, be sure to tune into The Mixtape on Thursday at 9pm for an extra dose of home cooking.

It’s Money that Matters on the Mixtape

So maybe going to the library whenever you need to do a reading is harder than it seemed, especially when everyone else had the same idea and the reserve copy of the text is always taken when you need it the most. A trip to the bookstore is in order. Hey, at least you beat the lines. But boy, is this book a little pricier than you thought it would be. It's not even that big.

Also, that guitar you bought last week on my recommendation is just sitting in the corner reminding you of your foolish purchase! Who has time to learn guitar when there's all this drinking to do?

Also, all this drinking is getting expensive!

Don't worry, in less than two weeks you can go home for Thanksgiving and ask the folks for a little extra cash. And in the meantime, you can tune into The Mixtape this Thursday at 9pm for a show dedicated to the greenback (and the blueback and the redback). This week's show is all about the love of money and the lengths we go to get it.

It's almost Mixtape time again, and you can count down the hours. In fact, count the minutes. After all, time is money.

The Mixtape impresses people with its guitar playing talents.

So you're (back) at school, and you're settled in, and classes are so much easier than you expected and, man, you haven't even bought any books yet, and you can probably get by using the reserve copies from the library to save a bit of money.

So what are you going to do with all that extra money and time?

The Mixtape: Everyone’s rooting for you.

So you've obviously noticed there are more people on campus these days, and they're all walking in different directions with purpose. That's my first piece of advice: even if you are hopelessly lost, walk with purpose. Don't lollygag around campus. Look like you know where you're going and what you're doing.
