Celebrity Crushes – you have them

Author: All Things Eclectric
Do you idealize the super famous? Well it would be strange if it never crossed your mind these days. It doesn't matter if its a "guilty pleasure" or a well deserved love interest, some people just incite the feeling in you. I figured this might be a place where I can finally put out my top 5, because hey, when else do I get the opportunity to? Also, i'm a boy so I think i'll do the hetero-normative thing first.

Hotties are as follows:

1. Chan Marshall AKA: Cat power
Not the most flattering of pictures,  but I would be hard pressed not to include Chan. She's kind of the troubled one on this list. A very public drinking problem and suicidal tendencies plagued her for a good while but she's back on the wagon!

2. Yelle (Julie Budet)
Cute Electro-Pop princesses are a rare sight. GO FRANCE!

3. Joanna Newsom
Is it possible not to love the folk-sichord

4. Jenny Lewis
I would never imagine that Las Vegas could produce a redhead without a burlesque show.

5. Taken By Trees AKA: Victoria Bergsman
Animal Collective covers? Swedish? I never had a chance

Stay tuned for the boy-crush version!

Ears hurt much?

Well it wouldn't be surprising. Music is getting louder and we're losing our ability to distinguish between good and bad.

So please for your own sake protect your ears listen to good music.
also, wear earplugs

Toot! Toot! You’re Cute!

Author: All Things Eclectric

rawr!

Yes, Yes.
I did make you a cookie and and I DID eated it.

This week's episode is dedicated to all things cute, and you wouldn't believe how many things there are. Whether it's the overt intention to be cute or it's implied, we must admit the pervasive attraction to cuteness.
Wikipedia sez:
Konrad Lorenz argued in 1949 that infantile features triggered nurturing responses in adults and that this was an evolutionary adaptation which helped ensure that adults cared for their children, ultimately securing the survival of the species.
So I emote because i'm a survivor?
cool.
Also..
is it safe to say then that the emotional response to something being cute is akin to making a fetish of the young?
weird.
But that's not a cute subject. Something more appropriate?
KITTIES!
and lots of furry fluffy adorable little cute little sweet rabbity things.

see how language changes when describing cute?

Enjoy the fluff
love,

Sam

Techno-Lunacy

Author: All Things Eclectric

"...then i woke up, and it was all true!"

So here's a show about what not to do and the elephant in the room.

-=-

you may notice, some music you hear makes reference to drugs. Why is there such a simple and apparent connection between drugs and music? Whether it's coke, weed, lsd, shrooms, bourbon or any silly combination of capitalized letters whose existence is predicated on things i have no understanding of, they all eventually get connected to not only the producers of music but the audience as well. Sure, there's exceptions always, but (especially with electronica) there is usually a substance close by at any given concert. Is it a coincidence that music and drugs may be so intricately entwined with our moments of elation?
...Yeah i don't know either.
At the risk of writing a paper when I don't have to I will avoid introspectively barfing questions on the keyboard. That would solve nothing.
However, it would be silly to say that this week's show is in no way under the influence of drugs. It's mostly under the influence. Whether it's overt (Shpongle) or symbolically implied, its going to be an evening of discussion and disruptions.

I'm not kidding, this weeks playlist is my favourite so far.

A Predilection for Production

Author: All Things Eclectric
Hi gang!
No tracklist for you this week, you've been naughty.
If you'd like to see the tracklist go join the facebook group. This allows me to claim that I have friends instead of the reality that you can't know what i played unless you listened or joined the facebook group. take that.
However, this is by no means going to be a boring post without the tracklisting. I'm gonna post links to some of the futuristic looking gadgets that I know of that are creating new and exciting ways of producing music these days.
check it:
Reactable - This thing is awesome. Touch based computers seem to be the way of the future. This is by no means the last time in this post that you will see a more tactile approach to electronic music.
Reactogon - This is basically a touch based arpeggiator formulated around the harmonic scale. its sweet. plus it looks like a beehive! Events in the arpeggiator start from a single source that you set at the start and from there your music begins.
Wavetable: this stuff is cool. essentially it is this mixed with this
give me a million dollars....now.
Audio Touch OS - this to me is very zen. i like. ambient music simplified.
OvalProcess: This is a musical program created by Markus Popp, a german artist and generally nerdy character. He produces under the moniker of Oval. 94 Diskont is a great album.
Jazz Mutant Lemur:In terms of live music this has the potential to simultaneously empower and bankrupt the everyday artist.
Audio Cubes: This is some more stuff that i like. please like too.
So if there's any missing that you think i should know about. send them to the facebook group.
or yell at me during my next show. come down, and yell at me.
please
Love
Sam

Consumption Junction: What’s YOUR function?

Author: All Things Eclectric
In case you were interested...

Consumption means a lot of things. One of them is eating! It's also the name that was formerly given to the disease tuberculosis. In this context though we're talking about music. How do YOU eat your music? I have a few ways. Most of them involve massive amounts of music. When does something become an addiction? Is the step before it habit? Tracklist:
1. Lava Lava Lava - Boys Noize
2. Nazis (Justice Remix) - Mr. Oizo (p.s. that link combines two of my worst fears)
3. Still Grey - Pendulum
4. Again Again Again Again - Bocce
5. In White Rooms - Booka Shade
6. John Thomas On The Inside Is Nothing But Foam - Telefon Tel Aviv
7. Symbol Range - Shen
8. Little Girl (MSTRKRFT) - Death From Above 1979
9. Sleep Deprivation - Simian Mobile Disco
10. Pour Vous - Opera Insights
11. Invaders - Excision & Datsik
12. Swagga - Excisison & Datsik
13. Happy Ending - Manitoba
14. Sliding Sh - Abakus
15. Broken Little Pieces - Renfro
16. Veridis Quo - Daft Punk

Yet again, another link-laiden blog post.
Also, I realize that as the Interim Lead Technician i'm responsible for getting tech things up and running. Be prepared for shows to become archived and available at all time. It's coming, i swear. But look at this. Can you believe that a company might offer a product but give no explanation as to how to use it? me neither. therefore i think we should write in to all these guys and tell them they have a bad business model. Until the day comes that i figure this junk out come by the WLUSP office in the basement of Macdonald House to watch me cry in frustration.

Enjoy!
