All Things Eclectric: Genesis
Show 1. Success?
I'm going to try and make a habit of posting right after my show on wednesday nights so that you can re-visit anything that you might have been interested in while you listened. I'll post track listings and any relevant links that i might have discussed. probably some irrelevant ones too.
let's get to it!: tracklist
Hey Boy, Hey Girl - The Chemical Brothers
- A classic, i once heard this while bartending for a wedding and anyone who knows weddings would
be amazed. i summarily lost my shit and danced.
E-Trips - Benga
- This is the first of what will prove to be a lot of dubstep that i will play on the show. Benga is a british
artist who produces great dubstep. here's a video done through the music magazine Future Music
which showcases his process of making music. great for any music nerds out there.
Doit - Mouse on Mars
- What can i say about a duo that wasn't probably mentioned when the theoretical god said "let there be trippy sound"? honestly, these guys bring it hard. more to come from these guys in the future, you'd better believe
Hold On - Cloud
- Swedish house. 'nuff said.
Vordhosbn - Aphex Twin
- Needs no introduction. An absolute juggernaut within the electronica community. This is from his
most recent album Drukqs. Relatively recent though. 2005 to be exact. Rumor has it that he is in the
process of making a new album right now and apparently no one from his record company has any
idea what it sounds like.
Don't Be Afraid, You Have Just Got Your Eyes Closed - Múm
- If magic was Icelandic and made pretty and tiny electronic music this would be its finest work yet.
Orcadrift - Adham Shaikh
- Adham Shaikh is a Canadian musician who studied electronic composition at Queens and now resides
in Nelson B.C. being cute with his family and the such.
Shining Escalade - Hot Chip
- Ironic? maybe. in any case images of fancy cars and impressing people you don't know give this electronic pop song an almost pathetic feel to it. love it, cry it...chip...it?
Off The Rail - The Notwist
- These German indie rockers have gone through some interesting incarnations, but most recently they've made a pretty big splash for their focus on electronic synthesis in their songs. More than a few of their songs from their 2002 album Neon Golden deal with rails and trains. My two year old nephew likes trains...a lot!
Laughter Crescendo - Bassnectar
- It's a Bass Phenomenon. Phenomenon. Phenomenon. Lorin Bassnectar is going to loosen your bowels and brain cells. If you haven't heard Underground Communication yet check it out. Dancehall, Grimey Dub Bass is his game, and he wins...always.
Happy Cycling - Boards of Canada
- Taking their name from the National Film Board of Canada, these Scottish brothers laid foundations for a new revival of ambient electronica. Their particular brand of music sounds like the NFB of the 1950's or the gentle hiss and pops of old 78's.
He Lived Deeply - Vladislav Delay
- You wouldn't imagine what will it took to play this song. for an inaugural show a 13 minute ambient track is not something that would truly attract many listeners. However, this particular incarnation of the Finnish musician Sasu Ripatti is well worth listening. as far as ambient goes, this is pretty dark and brooding. Ripatti's more accessible music will be played at a later date.
Like A Pen - The Knife
- This Swedish familial duo plays live with masks on. Mostly to hide their faces and do something along the lines of fighting the system. I guess I can't blame them for wanting to forego the possibility of celebrity recognition. I think they just want to be Swedish and in peace.
Sexy Boy - Air
- France has produced many amazing electronic acts. Like Ondes Martenot! talk about pioneers. If I opened a bar/lounge I would make the architect listen to Air for inspiration
I
'm not sure if i'm up to do this every week. It took much too long.
The question I ask is: Want more?
because its coming. and if you listen...you have no choice.
I am the third heat!
