New Rock Edge: Season 3 Episode 4 – Bullying & Its Resulting Consequences Playlist
Hey Every1!
So this past Friday's show focused on the serious topic of bullying and how it can affect us on a personal, individual, community, national, and international level. A lot of topics were covered including some of the various types of bullying including school, relationships, the workplace, and cyberbullying. We also showcased on the possible scenarios for both bullies and victim(s) to be involved in and how this might influence the possibility of how bullies are bullies and how victims are victims. Also, we could not forget the effect that bullying has on other loved ones whether they were in relation to the bully or the victim. This would include friends, family, pets, etc. There were some potential outcomes that could result from bullying whether it was prison, revenge, endurance, or even death. One strong encouragement though is that bullying can happen anywhere and everywhere whether you expect it or not. There are many resources available as a result that can help others share their stories and try to gain insight and advice from others who may have walked in their shoes. Services such as Kids Phone line or even Laurier-based services such as Peer Help Line or Foot Patrol are great methods for victims or bullies trying to get help. Everything is in your hands; you just have to make that dial.
However, I can ramble on and on about the summary of the show or go on into tangents and make this blog post into a small essay but I don't think either one of us wants to read for too long. Here is the playlist of some of the artists that were featured on this past Friday's episode. A lot of these songs are designed to target specific topics and forms of bullying and can even be told from their lyrics. I strongly suggest to take a look at the lyrics of these songs and see how they may apply to you on a personal or general individual level.
1. Three Days Grace - Bully
2. Bullet For My Valentine - Waking The Demon
3. Billy Talent - Nothing To Lose
4. Smile Empty Soul - Nowhere Kids
5. Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Face Down
6. Chevelle - I Get It
7. 30 Seconds To Mars - The Kill (Bury Me)
8. Stabbing Westward - Save Yourself
9. Simple Plan - Me Against The World
10. Depeche Mode - Walking In My Shoes
11. Papa Roach - Broken Home
12. Linkin Park - Numb
13. Pearl Jam - Jeremy
14. Korn - Thoughtless
15. Shinedown - 45
16. Slipknot - Snuff
17. Sevendust - Live Again
Once again I would like to thank each and every one of you for tuning into the show and make sure to tune in to next week's show, which won't be as serious of a topic, on Friday from 5-7 to listen to some great new rock music as well as our live-to-air interview with Mookie Morris & The Loyalists!

New Rock Edge: Season 3 Episode 4 – Bullying And Its Resulting Consequences
Hey Every1!
There is a rising problem occurring internationally and has been highlighted quite recently with various suicides throughout the past few months alone. It can commonly occur in school, it takes place in the work environment, exists in relationships with family and loved ones, and has started taking a toll on the internet as well. People calling others names and making fun of them to the point where their self confidence is broken and these victims are left withering without any means of hope to turn to. It is something that may have happened to us at some point in our lives as well and there's only a certain point where we can break from the pressure that is placed upon us. If you haven't guessed it by now, tonight we will focus on the concept of bullying and its resulting consequences.
Some of the artists that will address these issues include:
-Bullet For My Valentine
-Chevelle
-Simple Plan
-Pearl Jam
-Shinedown
So make sure to tune in to this serious episode and try and relate yourself to the different topics going to be discussed in tonight's episode.

New Rock Hawk Clock News Report: October 2010
1. Cage The Computer Elephant
Cage The Elephant has seen recent success with their past three singles “Ain’t No Rest For The wicked”, “Back Against The Wall”, and “In One Ear” throughout the past two years. Now, the band is gearing up for their sophomore disc “Computer Says Move” which is tentatively slated to be released on January 11, 2010. So if you want to hear more music from the band than you won’t have to hold your breath!
2. I SAW Chester Bennington in 3D!
Chester Bennington, lead singer of Linkin Park and Dead By Sunrise, has announced that he will be one of the characters in the new and possibly final installment of the SAW Series which has released movies constantly throughout the past seven years. The only thing he could reveal about his performance in the movie is that he plays an emotional character named “Evan” and based on recent commercials it looks like he is getting attacked while he’s in a car. He also reveals that this scene is a trap for multiple people rather than past traps which only featured one or two people at the most. Chester has had small cameos in other movies including Crank and Crank: High Voltage. He is also set to play a mugger in a film called Dark As Day to be released sometime this year.
3. Gleeks banned from Plastic Beach
Gorrilaz has recently issued a statement that they will not let the popular television show “Glee” do a rendition of any of their songs. Frontman (the real vocalist) Damon Albarn stated that even though the show and songs are popular on the show the actual release of the songs will never stand the test of time and that in a couple of years they will fade away from existence. The band has not been approached by the television show as of yet and judging by this they never will. The Glee cast has also recently broken the title for most number of appearances on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart by a non-solo act and the last band to do this was The Beatles.
4. Weezer No More?
Throughout the past three years Weezer has released three studio albums. Weezer: The Red Album, Raditude, and Hurley, which was just released this past September. The band is also releasing a deluxe version of their second album Pinkerton as well as an EP called “Death To False Metal”, formerly titled “Odds & Ends”, which is a compilation album of previously unreleased Weezer songs this coming November. It has also been announced that Rivers Cuomo, the lead singer for the band, will be issuing his third solo disc continuing with his current “Alone” saga. That album will be called “Alone: The Pinkerton Years” which should come out soon. To add onto their new consistent releases the band is actually in the process of writing and recording more music for a follow-up album to Hurley which should be released sometime in 2011.
Now that is a lot of new Weezer being released in the next year or so. The band states that they want to stay fresh and that they want to keep on releasing albums in consecutive years seeing that there’s no point in stopping when the creative energy is there. No, with that said, some people have had enough of Weezer. Apparently there is an online breakup campaign set up that if they reach a goal of $10 million they would give that money to the band Weezer so that they could break up. Now, the logistics of this website is flawed for the most part (why would you donate money to see a band break up as annoying as their constant releases are?) but drummer Patrick Wilson has stated that if the website could raise $20 million then Weezer would perform the deluxe breakup. The website and the campaign has since been shut down however there is no word on whether the money raised ($372) in the campaign was ever reimbursed.
5. Sing For Ascent
U2’s rumoured album “Songs For Ascent” has been confirmed to be released sometime in 2011 for sure. The bands manager Paul McGuinness has stated that the album should be released sometime before the bands next American leg of their tour, which means the album will be released sometime before May 2011. U2 has performed some of their new songs live including “Mercy”, “Boys Fall From The Sky”, and “Every Breaking Wave”. U2 has also announced that they will be working with Danger Mouse, member of Gnarls Barkley and Broken Bells on this next disc. The theme will fall under the club subgenre so expect to find some stellar songs to dance to.
6. My Wicked Heart Steals From Under The Bridge
In the never-ending story of musical plagiarism lawsuits that have been filed another one has come up recently. The band Red Hot Chili Peppers are considering to take legal action on British singer/songwriter Diana Vickers, who’s song “My Wicked Heart” has a strong resemblance to the bands song “Under The Bridge” released back in 1992.
The British singer/songwriter also recently admitted that she was listening to the song “Under The Bridge” the day before she wrote the chorus to her single “My Wicked Heart” which has been gaining momentum in her native UK.
She said "Yeah, that happened without even knowing. We wrote the song in an hour. We had the song and it didn't have the My Wicked Heart bit in it and then we put the vocal in and we were like, 'Why does it sound so familiar?'"
In other news Red Hot Chili Peppers have stated that fans can expect to hear a new album by the band by this coming summer at the most. They are aiming to release new music in March however fans can definitely expect new music from the band this coming summer.
7. Facebook in Trent Reznor’s Eyes…
“Facebook Sucks” according to Trent Reznor, lead vocalist for the powerful industrial band Nine Inch Nails who ironically wrote the score to The Social Network, a movie loosely based around the concept and creation of facebook. Reznor’s main problems with the ideologies of facebook include that it has the ability to foster real and fake relationships as well as phony personas. Here is what Trent had to say:
"That sense of, 'here's the books I'm supposed to have read for the social archetype I want to fit into, so I'll portray myself this way.' I've seen that with people I know in real life, and I check them out online, it's not always the same person . . . I'm just coming from an older school of when you met people you met . . . a real person and not some avatar of themselves."
"As far as the concept goes, I don't think it's actually executed that well. The layouts kind of foolish and the processing is terrible, as a tool. When I see the media heralding Mark Zuckerburg, putting him up on a pedestal of genius and mentioned in the same breath as Steve Jobs, I highly disagree with that. He was in the right place, at the right time, with a functional tool."
8. Black: Keys or Eyed Peas?
Rock/Blues band The Black Keys recently won the Breakthrough Video award at MTV’s Video Music Awards for their song “Tighten Up” beating out other nominee’s Coldplay, Gorrilaz, and Dan Black although the award wasn’t included in the telecast. However, despite not being shown on live television, there was a MAJOR typo on the trophy as it featured the name “The Black Eyed Peas” engraved on the trophy instead of “The Black Keys”. Normally, this would have caused a huge uproar and controversy surrounding the mistake however members of the Black Keys were very gentle with the situation and even joked with the situation as they congratulated Fergie for winning the Breakthrough Video award. Drummer Patrick Carney also joked by tweeting that he would make $300 by selling the trophy on eBay.
A spokesperson for MTV has recently apologized for the incident and that their trophy will be replaced with the band’s name actually on the trophy.
