New Rock Hawk Clock News Reports 1-3
1. “Facebook – The Movie” by Nine Inch Nails
Frontman Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and member of How To Destroy Angels has been revealed to be composing the soundtrack to the film “The Social Network” which is based around the creation of Facebook. Here is what Trent has to say:
"I was planning on taking some time off after the continual waves of touring that ended last fall and spend this year experimenting around with what would become “How To Destroy Angels” and some new NIN. Well, that plan didn't work out so well. David Fincher started inquiring about my interest in scoring his upcoming film, The Social Network . . . quite honestly I wondered what would draw him to tell that story. When I actually read the script and realized what he was up to, I said goodbye to that free time I had planned."
The soundtrack album should be arriving in stores within a matter of weeks. In other news, How To Destroy Angels are currently in the process of recording a physical album to release sometime in 2011.
Trent and his wife Mariqueen Maandig are also expecting their first child, a first for both musicians, who is scheduled to arrive this October.
2. Album Update: Queens Of The Stone Age, Evanescence, The Strokes
Queens Of The Stone Age had set the tone when they released their last album “Era Vulgaris” in terms of the swoon of love, especially with their hit tune “Make It Wit Chu”. Lead singer Josh Homme has revealed that the band is working on a follow-up effort to the album and it will focus predominately on “wiggling hips” except in a darker fashion. So brace yourself for more details on their next album!
The Strokes have planned to release their newest record in January of 2011 (exactly five years since the release of their last album “First Impressions Of Earth”) but now has been pushed forwards to March of 2011. The reason for this is to free up more time to finish recording and writing the album so that it’s perfect for release.
The Strokes are not the only band to push back the release of their upcoming album. Evanescence has also pushed back their third album to a yet-to-be determined release date so that the creative process can be thoroughly drawn out to perfect the album. The album is apparently largely influenced by party rock and dance themed musicians such as Portishead, MGMT, and Depeche Mode.
3. The Catalyst of A Thousand Suns reveals new Linkin Park
Linkin Park have been hard at work for their release of their fourth album which is slated for release on September 14 of this year. As of right now however, the band has revealed what the new album will be called as well as the number of songs included on the album. The new album shall be called “A Thousand Suns” with “The Catalyst” being the first single from the group. The rest of the songs on the album include: “The Requiem”, “The Radiance”, “Burning In The Skies”, “Empty Spaces”, “When They Come For Me”, “Robot Boy”, “Waiting For The End”, “Jornada Del Muerto”, “Blackout”, “Wretches And Kings”, “Wisdom, Justice, And Love”, “Iridescent”, “Fallout”, and “The Messenger”.
4. REPEAT! NEW SUM 41 ALBUM IS NOT FOCUSED ON DIVORCE!
Contrary to belief that the new disc by Sum 41 will be focused on the divorce between frontman Deryck Whibly and Avril Lavigne members of the band have reassured that their new album “Screaming Bloody Murder” will not be about their divorce. At most, they will have two songs dedicated to the break up but asides from that the new album will be going back to the roots of Sum 41 which made them popular in the first place. The album is supposed to be dark, intense, yet epic at the same time similar to the sound style of “Chuck” and “Does This Look Infected?”
5. Another New Weezer Album???
Weezer just seems to be spitting out new tunes by the minute. In 2008 they released their third self-titled, “Red” album containing singles such as “Pork & Beans”, “Troublemaker”, and “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations Of A Shaker Hymn)” whereas in 2009 came the release of “Raditude” (a term coined by actor Rainn Wilson) which saw the release of songs such as “If You Are Wondering If I Want You To (I Want You To)”, “Let It All Hang Out”, and “I’m Your Daddy” and now this coming September of 2010 they will be releasing a new album that has yet to be revealed however is described to have more rock raw energy than the previous two efforts.
6. Who Wants To See “Mr. Nobody”??? Apparently Nobody
Jared Leto, actor and frontman of 30 Seconds To Mars, has recently released a new film entitled “Mr. Nobody” this month and is described as a fun, exhilarating, adventurous, and beautiful movie where the main character Nemo (Jared Leto) wakes up in the year 2092 as a 120 year old dying man in a world of immortal people and has three alternate flashbacks to three points of his life with three different women. This of course is a self-review statement made by Jared Leto himself however contrary to his statement The Playlist, an influential movie blog, had a different viewpoint on the movie entirely.
"Mr. Nobody doesn't reward your patience nor engage your intellect . . . Both overblown and half-baked, too long and not edited enough, Mr. Nobody describes exactly the kind of audience it will likely get.”
Though Jared Leto has starred in famous and popular films such as American Psycho, Fight Club, Panic Room, and Requiem For A Dream, methinks that Jared might do a whole lot better as just a musician and not an actor let alone a filmmaker.
7. Rossdale Revives Bush – The Inside Story
Gavin Rossdale has recently announced the return of Bush as well as the release of the new single “Afterlife” and their new album “Everything Always Now” slated for release in October of this year. This is what he had to say about the album and the reformation of Bush:
"I went right the next day off of tour into the studio to write, and it just dawned on me that really kind of the weakest link in doing these songs was maybe bringing it under my own name. I felt that the solo thing was cool, but it was more by default than design, and I really was just thinking, 'Man, this should just be -- why is this not Bush? I mean, this is crazy.'"
8. Smashing Charity For Matthew Leone
Though frontman Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins has come under fire with a lot of his statements and actions in terms of starting beef with celebrities and giving out poor performances, such as leaving the stage after getting angry or passing out during a show, there is one thing you will have to respect about his latest effort, his charity gig to help Matthew Leone, bassist of Madina Lake, recover from critical and potentially fatal injuries as a result of a fight that Matthew intervened between a random man beating up his wife which resulted in Matthew getting beaten so bad that he had to get part of his skull removed and brain treated for severe trauma.
The charity was made to help pay for Matt’s medical bills and was a huge success, raking in over $80 000 in proceeds to go towards Matthew Leone. Illinois governor Pat Quinn was one of many in attendance of the charity event and has dubbed the day “Matthew Leone Day” in respect of Matt’s efforts to stop a woman getting hurt despite the fact that he did not know her or her husband. Personally, respect for Billy Corgan to set up the event and perform but mad and larger respect for Matthew Leone who put his own life in danger to save a woman from hers.
9. Rage Against The Arizona Law
A new yet controversial law has been put into effect and now recently on hold in Arizona which allows police to detain anybody that are suspected to have illegal immigrant status. This law is highly despised because it encourages racial profiling of any ethnic person as well as increasing discrimination as a result. However, Rage Against The Machine has taken this as an opportunity to raise awareness and get people to protest against this law via the Sound Strike benefit concert which is situated in their hometown of Los Angeles. Zach is highly political and has addressed this issue as not an issue of immigration status but a basic right of human dignity.
Also, a growing number of musicians and artists have refused to play in Arizona until the law is lifted. This list includes Rage Against The Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Maroon 5, Ben Harper, and the list continues onwards.
10. Kings Of Pigeons
Earlier this month the band Kings Of Leon had stated that there will be nothing that will hold the band back from playing their four new songs “Immortals”, “Mary”, “Southbound”, and “Radioactive” live in their current tour. However, the band must have spoke too soon as they had to cancel a gig in St. Louis due to an unannounced attack of pigeon poop. The band was only three songs into their set before they had to leave due to an excessive amount of pigeon poop being rained on top of them. Fearing safety and health hazard issues the band had to cancel their gig. It doesn’t help that bassist Jared Followill is also a germaphobe and being covered in pigeon poop isn’t really that healthy the last time I checked. Still, the first two opener bands The Postelles and The Stills were also covered in bird shit by the end of their sets which predicted doom from the very start. The band has stated that they will make it up to fans who attended the concert by playing St. Louis sometime in the near future.
