Guerilla Radio
Hosted by Emily Myles
DJ EM loves music, but really got into DJ-ing because her friends had been doing it and she was feeling left out. She bought a used Roland TR-606 from a pawn shop during the initial excitement of joining the RadioLaurier team; not knowing its market value, she sold it back to the pawn shop for $20 when she got bored with it. The same thing happened to an ill-fated hamster, ‘Ask Zandar’, and a Dungeons & Dragons gaming set.Too impatient to learn through traditional methods, she has watched several “How to DJ” instructional videos on YouTube and has hired a local wedding/event DJ to teach her how to mix records.
DJ EM hasn’t played with any internationally-known DJs (or nationally-known, for that matter), but she once chloroformed a real-life chauffeur in order to pick-up Deaudmau5 from the airport for a gig, and Deadmau5 had very polite things to say about the iPod mix she insisted on playing the whole drive into town. Listeners have described EM as "decent", while other DJs have said that DJ EM is “a very nice girl” and that she “wears t-shirts sometimes. She is also considered a prolific and respected producer; she has probably released two albums and 10 EPs since she got up this morning.
Listen to the up-and-coming DJ EM on her show, Guerilla Radio, if you like hip-hop, remixes & mash-ups, not-so-indie music, and whatever other songs she chooses from HypeMachine or Earmilk.
